I noticed, beginning in august, that the speedometer in my 2004 chevy silverado 1500 began sticking when my speed decreased. Beginning in september the gauge began sticking when accelerating, and on october 24th, the gauge stuck at 45mph, even while to truck was in park not moving. I received a paper back in august about a class action lawsuit regarding this mal-function and i believe i will take that, along with…

The speedometer on my 2004 chevy silverado has stopped working properly. When at a full stop, it reads 20 mph, and increases accordingly from there, so the proper speed is never displayed. It is a constant problem, and consequently the driver of the vehicle is never sure what the actual speed of the vehicle is. The parts have not been replaced at this time. *tr

All gauges on my 2004 chevy silverado 1500 have failed. Former class action suit was filed and won on behalf of truck owners. Suit only covers vehicles under 80k miles. Mine failed at about 100k. Discussed issue with gm and they will not fix the issue. Found on nhtsa web site others are having the same issue at about the same mileage. The cluster is a defective part installed in production and seems to be destined…

The digital instrument display on my 2004 chevy silverado z71w/53k miles quit working. After 5 minutes, the display appeared. The next day, the digital display did not appear for 45 minutes. All analog displays (mph, oil, water, battery) were ok. The proposed class action lawsuit against gm appears related to the analog gauges only. Loss of digital display is also a concern, since transmission gear and any power…

I have a 2004 silverado,z71,and it has 106,000 miles. I just recently had the 4x4 system repaired,at a cost of $802.50. The encoder on the transfer case motor went bad, thus not allowing the 4x4 to engage. I am aware of three other similar trucks that have had the same problems. This is a very costly repair to someone like myself.thanks...david *tr

I purchased a 2004 z-71 silverado on december 31, 2007 with 16,020 miles. In july of 2008 my gauge cluster started working intermittently, at first only the oil and fuel gauges stopped now my whole cluster has been rendered useless. The dealership is making excuses not to stand behind their product, even though it is a known issue that is common knowledge to almost everyone who owns a gm truck. They have told me…

Was driving down the road in my 2004 chevrolet silverado and the speedometer quit working. Granted, the vehicle just hit over 100,000 miles, but would not expect this to happen. The needle sits below 0 mph and will occasionally jump to between 5- 10 mph no matter the speed of the vehicle. I am apparently no the only individual that has this issue on the same model vehicle. *tr

My 2004 silverado tachometer and fuel gage are totally erratic or not working beginning around 73,000 miles. I just have to guess what fuel i have in the tank and fill up frequently. Had a flat and could not remove spare, removed entire hoist system and found the secondary latching system totally froze up, so just threw the tire in the bed of the truck. Cost a tow to get home with a load of christmas gifts. *tr

I just do not understand why a recall has not been issued for the instrument cluster on the 2004 chevy silverado trucks. How is not having a speedometer not a safety issue? Gm did come out with what they do not call a recall for the instrument cluster but it obtained a mileage limit. This is not right they know the part was defective they just do not want to admit it and that is bull. The 1st time i took it to the…

Vehicle would lose antifreeze after 2 hour trips and knocking in the engine. Gmc replaced the lifters in 2005. Nothing changed, 2007 had the antifreeze issue corrected by replacing intake. Speedometer went out at 90,000 miles. At 100,000 miles started losing oil pressure, had oil pressure switch replaced, at 111,000 miles bearings went out had to replace engine, this vehicle has been extremely costly for me. *tr
