Steering column failure causing slow speed accident in parking lot and involving loss of steering and impact with lamp post. Vehicle damage to bumper and driver side front fender but not involving front driver side wheel, so steering column failure could not have been caused by incident. Vehicle then had no steering control and is undriveable.

The steering assistance reduced light came on the dash and the vehicle steering became stiff like there was no power steering. I turned my vehicle off and restarted the vehicle and the light came on again, but this time the steering was normal. Now the light is on at all times. My vehicle has right at 50,000 miles on it.

While driving on ca 395 north with snowy conditions, i exited to the viewing overlook. At a low speed and my steering locked up. I could not force the wheel to move in any direction but lucky i rolled to a stop in the turn out. I turned the truck on and off 2-3 times and steering remained locked.
